Our Off Grid Home
There once was a Little One and a Mum,
They lived in the bush,
Somehow close to the city,
The Hills and the Ocean,
In a small house,
That had two rooms.
The toilet was outside,
And their vegetables were still small,
But the sunsets were grand.
Little One and Mum held hands, walking down the hill,
Stomping to let the snakes know.
Long grass and brick paths,
Wide open sky,
They cooked food together,
In their little kitchen,
They stared at the fire together.
Little One and Mum had what they had,
And it was enough.
Little One danced and made silly faces,
While Mum collected firewood.
Sometimes, it was boring,
The days were long.
It was a big walk to the shops,
Mum was still learning too drive a car.
Little One was brave and wanted to help,
Mum taught her as soon as she had learned herself.
Their home was powered by the sun,
And batteries, it was different.
But it worked and they were always learning,
From others who came before.
Mum learned to split logs,
So they were warm at night.
Her hands were almost always dirty,
Except for when making food from her soul.
The nights were quiet and the smoke from the fire place rippled across the hills,
How beautiful and dangerous fire was.
Mum and Little One,
Learning together.
