Our lost kingdom

Right day we've met
struggling for love,
right feelings
to be encountered
for two broken hearts.
We built our empire
of emotions and love,
our golden shell
to be covered by,
our castle to live in.

We've been
protected for years,
but the walls
weren't strong enough.
No intruders destroyed
our big stone building,
the war was inside,
sharp arrows from old years,
wounds that never healed.

We both lost the battle
when our thoughts stagnated,
instead of moving forward.
We both got lost
in our own past,
instead of strengthening
our present,
what we had together;
our castle to take care of,
our shared crown to protect,
our kingdom to fight for.

Dear Maria, I loved reading this poignant poem. Your use of metaphors are wonderful and conjures up so much imagery. ‘ The war was inside, sharp arrows from old years, wounds that never healed’ really stood out for me. The last stanza is powerful and profound- it’s not always easy letting go of the past but sometimes if you don’t, it acts as a shackle and traps you so you cannot move forward as so wonderfully and sadly illustrated in you poem. A great, emotive write from you my lovely,

A great metaphorical poem, my friend. It describes the emotions of parting love perfectly. A fine poem indeed.

Dear Maria, I could feel the heartbreak in your words. My first love, whom I thought I would one day marry, crumbled to the ground like the arrows in your poem. But my soul mate came into my life shortly after, and now we have been married for 42 years. Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Hello Maria, sometimes the love dies between a couple. i hope that never happens to you. Once a person loses the love there is nothing there, the love died. Hugs my friend. /Darlene/

How right you are. It happened to me once, and he is a friend, but far from me. That was my first love for years. Now, I am married to a nice man, but first love never is forgotten. Thank you my Darlene, I wish we could have a coffee together and talk for long time about our life. I hope your little friend, your child is ok? So you do. Hugs/ María
