Our Front Porch

Walking down the gravel road
Is a part of who I am
Sitting on the front porch swing
And eating home made jam

The crickets in the field at night
Serenade us with their tune
Listening to the lonesome cry
Of a not too distant loon

That's where I learned about Jesus
And even the birds and bees
The place I stole my very first kiss
Beneath those willow trees

Listening to my grandpa's stories
As he whittled while he rocked
Back when people trusted one another
And our doors were never locked

How I miss those days where I grew up
My heart still carries a torch
For all those years I spent back then
Growing up on our front porch
