Oswego, Ny
OSWEGO, NEW YORK
The summer sun was setting
and the urban landscape
where the river flowed north
into the last Great Lake settled
into quiet, the working class burghers
and their beautiful families finally
relieved of endeavor and stress
The northwest breezes caressing the
waters turned reflected street lights
into shimmering diamonds that made
the city seem rich under a golden blue,
orange blue, cobalt blue sky, then black
sky and quiet, a hint of prayer and
promise and a community finally at rest,
the kind of Saturday night that a
Sunday morning deserves
Oswego: from the Onondaga deyoshweege
“splitting waters”, “pouring out place” – where the
Oswego River meets Lake Ontario .
