Notes About The Poem

Oscoda, Michigan Memories

golden fried doughnuts
ice cream made of new snowfall
backyard starlit woods

moonlight children's tales
still lingering in my mind
Halloween treat bags

adopted kitties
a Christmas tree from the woods
homemade ornaments

bluebirds passing by
saffron sun low in the sky
happy childhood days

Love it my heart sank. You look like an "angel". Michigan, I know it well and yet haven't heard of Oscoda? Your father's service in the Air Force is appreciated and sounds like a happy time for you. Blessings to you, Evelyn.

I'm so glad you like this poem, Anaya. You probably haven't heard of Oscoda because it's so tiny. The population was listed as 7,152 in April 2020, but it was much smaller many years ago, when I was there. I doubt now that the woods stretched all the way to Canada, but they were big. There is link to a map of Oscoda, below. You will be able to zoom in and out to determine Oscoda's proximity to the places you know. And thank you for complimenting my picture. Blessings, Evelyn https://satellites.pro/Oscoda_map

Thank you so much for your kind words of esteem, Kim. Yes, the photo is me, at 8 years old. My father, who was in the Air Force, was stationed in Oscoda, Michigan. The woods, which began on a low, sandy hill in back of our house, went all the way to Canada, I am told. We could never get all of the sand out of the house, lol. :D
