Midnight Cowboy -". . . was notable for being the first and only X-rated film (its nude scenes and bold content - sex and drugs - were shocking for its time, but its X-rating for its initial release was later downgraded to R when the film was re-released in late 1970) to receive the Best Picture Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences." —AMC Filmsite filmsite.org/midn.html

Loved that movie! To me it was a story about a loving relationship between two men. There were no videos or DVDs when it came out. I went to see it in the theater at least 8 times. Now I can watch it on TV. Roger Ebert and I used to argue about the movie in Chicago. RIP Roger Ebert. Panangiota. Thanks Mark

Panagiota, thank you for sharing your very interesting personal experience with this movie. I’ve never talked to anyone who has had much to say about it one way or the other, so I’m glad to have heard from you, Gershon and Tom. ~Mark

Wow that took me back Mark, loved that film, Joe Buck thought he was a gift to the ladies. Ralph " you coming to work" Joe Buck" hell no Ralph, just come to pick up my pay, got places to go right" A classic. Tom.

What if I wrote a haiku for every film that ever won the best picture Oscar? And titled the whole collection Hollywood Haiku? Well that's what I've been working on for over a year and a half now. I've designated them as "Oscar-ku," a combination of Oscar and haiku. Kudos to fellow poet Kim Rodrigues for coming up with the name. Cheers, Kim! Light's, camera, action!
