Ordinary People

Verse 1:
We are Ordinary people.
Living lives we don't define.
We are Ordinary people,
Clocking in from nine to five.

Verse 2:
We are Ordinary people.
Not built for the single life.
We are Ordinary people,
Bound to one lonely lovely wife.

Verse 3:
We are Ordinary people.
Our children carved to match the mould.
We are Ordinary people,
Taught from birth to join the fold.

Verse 4:
And what is right is what 'we' say.
Whether night or the day.
We don't ask. We demand.
You will follow. Obey the plan
Of Ordinary living.

Verse 5:
We are Ordinary people.
No step must break the line.
We are Ordinary people,
Our smiles are stitched on by design.

Verse 6:
We are Ordinary people.
We labour on from night to day.
We are Ordinary people,
Every rank on full display.

Verse 7:
We are Ordinary people.
We burn the candle bright.
We are Ordinary people,
On our brows we bear all blight.

Verse 8:
And all the blight we will bear.
There's no room to give a care.
For all those who despair,
Of Ordinary living.

Verse 9:
We are Ordinary people.
Parade our smiles along the street.
We are Ordinary people.
With practised nods and pleasantries.

Verse 10:
We are Ordinary people.
We don't like you? We won't say.
We are Ordinary people,
Turn around. Walk away.

Verse 11:
We are Ordinary people.
Preserve order at any cost.
We are Ordinary people,
Not a wrinkle — never lost.

Verse 12:
For a wrinkle or a crease,
Might stain our cheeks with public shame.
So mind your manners, best behave.
Lest we issue — cold and grave,
A warning clear — unyielding, near...

Verse 13:
Silence shall fall …
And you will find yourself erased
You crossed the line,
Now your reward is disgrace.
For daring to disturb,
Our Ordinary Living.
