Optimum Measure

Originally published in Out On a Limb, an Anthology for Friends, June 2020

They can put a man
On a pedestal,
Have him admired
Far and wide;
But he’ll never
Really be that tall
Unless he feels
That way inside.

The crowd can make
A man a king
And call him
A big success,
But he must reach
Goals he’s set himself
If he’s to find
True happiness.
