Oppressive Heat

When the air feels thick and humid, clouds coalesce in shades of grey. And a dullness blunts the Sun's edge, unable to cut through the fray. A gloomy mood paints your day blue with a blah, melancholy brush. And you start to squirm and fidget, suppressing any urge to rush. You lounge around, miserable: with your face frozen in a frown. And a laziness settles in, as perspiration dribbles down. Suffocating and exhausting, the air feels heavy and tactile. And the sweltering atmosphere leaves you depressed and immobile. Even long after the Sun sets, an oppressive heat: won't give in. And you feel uncomfortable: for there's no way to cool your skin.

...It ain't the heat---it's the humidity. Emile, this poem captured the torture of a steaming hot humid day when you feel as if you need to grow gills in order to breath. Thanks for entering the contest.

Thanks Connie, I prefer the heat myself, it can get mighty cold up here in Canada. Emile.
