In Kansas City the bus drivers go out around 5 a.m. and make a report about how slick it is. The head of the busses (which are owned privately) make the decision to close based on their report.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Love that last line -- the scourge of our age. I just can't get used to the fact that they close the schools based on a weather forecast -- that's wrong 50% of the time for yesterday!! ~ Old-School

They never did when I was in school. They put chains on the school bus tires and off we went. I waded snow up to my knees stop the school bus stop half a mile away. I remember it so well.

Having worked outdoors for the early part of my career I never relied too much on the weathermans forecast and used my own judgement. They don't always get it right and the wind changes direction at the drop of a hat. Tom

It has happened Milton.I remember years ago in Rochester NY. The weatherman Kevin Williams predicted the Storm Of The Century. He had everyone up in Arms the schools closed, it started the ball rolling in all the newscasters predicting this great storm. The days went by, one, two, then three, there was no snow. Poor guy had egg on his face. Shortly after that he was working for another news station. Great guy, I was sad to see him get fired. No weatherman can be 100% certain so I never got why they fired him.

Yep, that's true, Jeff. Although I must say we have a pretty good local weatherman in our area here in the Tri-State.
