Only Shadows Remain

In remembering those we loved,
Naught can alter their time; it’s passed,
So we’re besieged by a myriad of what-ifs?
Now, we face a cascade of shadows,
Rife with seasonings, of pain, and sorrow,
Whimsy notions occupy our minds
About entanglements with the cheat of life;
By gorging on the scraps from life’s table,
He lies, propelled by each zephyr’s motion,
A victim of his own volition;
