---Only One Cookie a Week---

A little brunette girl, told me a tale.
Her big brown eyes,a little teary.
She began and was wringing her dimpled
hands.
The fog was rolling in, that blessed dew,
carried by a cloud-band.

Seems that her Daddy had passed, with
only Mom to raise her.
So, money was short, and thus to her
Mom, she deferred.
Mom said "only one cookie a week."
Those words, oh, they made her drool!

Their life near the sea, was so lovely.
She'd take her pencil and notebook,
Sit on their small roof, and drew the
tops of Eucalyptus trees.
The days of milk and one cookie...
Now etched in her tree-scented memory.

Grown now, with a family of her own.
Her Mother, gone to be with her God..
Resting in peace beneath lush sod..
Today, that girl bakes cookies with much
gusto and joy!
To serve to her son, as he plays with his
cars, dog and other toys!

Hello panagiota, it must have been very hard on this girl to only have one cookie per week. For a child that would be very hard to do. Hugs xx

Hrllo Darlene! Children are Overcomers! I knew a woman in Chicago who locked up all snacks so her four children could not get to them. We all, I am guessing, had something we wanted that our parents could not supply! But see, we are all here.. Survivors. Panagiota

It is funny that one lives without with food or objects when growing up , one tends to indulge with it when you are older. Great story, did bring back memories.

WoW! Panagiota, I agree with Tom; this is such a heartwarming story. Even though times were hard with her and mom, love was evident; at the end of the day, that’s what's gets one through the rough times. I enjoyed the read. Have a nice day:-) Alexis
