Only Heaven Knows

Is there a God
A grand creator up above
Some say the author of our story
Benevolent, the one who radiates joy and pure love

I think about this often
Did this belief just miraculously appear?
Is it Truth?
Or a strategy - driven by our deepest darkest fears

They say we’re created in his image
They say he gave his only son
The sacrificial lamb
The chosen one

This Holy story creates issues
Neurotic feelings mixed with guilt and sweet revenge
We’ve failed to live up to his story
But in the end, they lose, we win

They say God is all knowing
They say he set our story in stone
We will have trials and tribulations
But we pray, as if he doesn't know

Perhaps this is all just a test
A devilish compromise
Struggling to make it through
Trying to find meaning in our life

So if there is a God
That exist from up above
I think he's indifferent
A man made father we want to love

So in the end
When the curtains start to close
We ask, “is there a God?”
I guess only Heaven knows
