Only For a Day
Old men often mention tales,
of bridges burned, and ships that sailed.
In twilight years, there’s clear regret,
when the mind is old, but can’t forget.
Hopes and dreams - now long in tooth,
were once around the bend…
Both squandered in a misspent youth,
only now we comprehend.
We know too well there’s no return,
to water under bridges burned.
Yet we journey - in our mind,
a heartfelt passage back in time,
to abscond the locks of gray.
A jaunt beyond the line we’ve crossed,
embracing life we thought was lost,
the reflection’s pale and frayed.
But memories in our mind suffice,
as we live and feel the same thing twice,
if only for a day….
