Only a Memory

Shattered pledges and broken wings
Is all that you left me

Jagged edges and stolen dreams
Is all that I'll ever be

When you came into my world
I thought you'd leave a light on
Instead I woke up to the darkness
Stumbling looking for a switch
To turn you back on

Over night you stopped loving me
It wasn't slow, it wasn't fast
It was just over
I should've known beauty never lasts

Shattered pledges and broken wings
Is all that you left me

Jagged edges and stolen dreams
Is all that I'll ever be

When the dust cleared
After the storm
Clear skies let me see the truth
The one I thought was real
Was just a figment of my imagination
The you I knew never existed

I'll always have the scars you left
The memories will fade
And I'll be left with nothing
But a hope to move on from devastation

Shattered pledges and broken wings
Is all I thought you left me

Jagged edges and stolen dreams
Is all I thought I'd ever be

But now I'm done
I'm putting one foot in front of the other

Shattered pledges

Now I'm moving on

Jagged edges
Broken wings
Stolen dreams

It's all only a memory

A stunning write. It reads like a lyric--so beautifully executed poem, Jessica.
