Only God Knows

"Hi hon, I'm home!
Hey what are all our friends doing here?!"
Hello dear, there's something I forgot to mention.
We are all here for your intervention.
Come in, come in! Where have you been?
"I stayed late at work to write some prose.
Hon, it was really cool and entitled "Only God Knows"!"
Well you see dear, that's why we're all here.
You are a poetry freak and in denial, with a pen fettish!
"Gimme back my pen and no I'm not, at least not yettish!"
No dear? Then why is there a poem written
on the toilet paper roll?
"That's simple, hon, I had no paper while there,
and it looked like a scroll."
What is that strange spot of ink doing on your hand?
"I had an idea about a poem for us,
so I marked it near my wedding band."
Why do you have to write some poems
NOW in so much of a hurry?
"Because, sometimes they flow through me, not from me,
so don't you all worry,
when I get inspired, I get wired."
But then dear, just where does it come from,
this inspiration that flows?
"Don't you see, hon? That's what I've been trying to tell you !
..Only God Knows!

Just rereading this one and thinking, gosh, couldn't it be entered in that contest for "how you write" or whatever? Can people enter poems in different contests that have been used in other contests? I was wondering about that the other day! Now I am sure glad I named you a fav poet! Luv, andrea

This is a very fun and clever poem, Robert. I too have gone through what this poem describes, to the point of writing on scraps of paper in my car (kind of dangerous) But I often take hours and hours on just one poem, so I am lucky to write more than a few a week! Too busy teaching. Wish I had time!! andrea

The passion for writing is quite pressing at times Robert. I guess the toilet paper thing wasn't. Anyway, the job isn't finished untill the paper work is done. Smile! Have a merry season. Sincerely, Moses

A poetry intervention! Guess it's called for when you start writing poems on toilet paper, Robert. You made me laugh out loud with this one! I can remember sitting in a sports bar and writing during halftime, so perhaps I need an intervention as well. LOL Excellent writing! It is hard to stay away from our passion for writing, isn't it? Happy holidays! Love, Carolyn

Amen Robert.. I know the flow u speak of and how its a must to grab pen and paper quickly ...no matter where it be ... and that's because inspiration comes from God so when that line is connected u need to be ready.. it happens day or night .. in the middle of sleep or a football game or Mass on Sundays... even visiting friends... great job of relaying this through poetry.. enjoyed and thankxxx for your kind comments on my poetry also.. blessings.. luv... happy holidays... Linda-Marie..
