One With the Universe

the morning
quiet as a prayer
stood breathless
before me

intoxicating
in all its modesty
inspiring
its wondrous silence

the world asleep
even the sun
slow to rise
stretching time

and so i lingered
at one with the universe
on the coattails of summer
waiting for a sign from you
