One Thirty Six
`
I’ll start with one
The easiest way
To compose a poem
This wonderful day
Not much at counting
Math’s not for me
Algebra, Calculus
Geometry
Too many numbers
Written in pen
Add this, subtract that
Then do it again
Now I am closer
Checking the sum
Maybe mistaken
I’m kind of dumb
But I keep writing
Following rules
Using my phrases
Poetic tools
Spilling my verses
Out on the page
Regardless of meaning
No matter the age
Hoping to finish
Here before long
Asking the counter
Please don’t be wrong
Seeing an ending
Come into sight
Thankful it’s nearing
So hard to write
My eyes are blurry
Fingers they ache
Just one more stanza
Is all it will take
And if it doesn’t
Then I’ll have to fix
To get this poem
To one thirty six
