One Step Backwards

To hear that you are gone for good
and never coming back to me,
it breaks my heart and tears my soul;
I wonder why this has to be.

You say you're happy now with him;
I have to back away, I know,
and leave you to enjoy that love,
forget the way I hoped we'd grow.

You left three years ago and I
must carry on...at least, I'll try.

Some never get over a lost love...they remain unmarried as my grandfather did after losing my grandmother. They were kept apart by family and she died young at 50. This is a fine entry for the contest Jack! ;-)

Well, one can writer a better poem when they have or are experiencing the event or pain. Good job. Thanks for all the visits to my page. Sara

Hi, Jack, you did a beautiful job here though I think you used poetic license. There is still a ring of truth in it. The sting of the breakup. Thanks for visiting my poems today. I need desperately to get over to my emails. Hopefully soon!
