One Second To Grieving

Somehow, to pass the night with hand picked songs
on burned cd's
and brittle air through cracked open car windows
breaks me.
It pulls every star from midnight's breath and
drops them in whale sized hail on my tongue to freeze.
No words.
No blur as the trees pass me by
and I stand still.
The road kisses tires every day
without knowing it's travelers, really.
And I have shared in their misfortunes,
having never known the road, really.
But tonight, with star breath on my night mouth,
and your thoughts in songs swimming 'round the car
excepting the cracked windows to spill,
I am alive.
Did you hear that?
For this one single moment,
on this one single night,
alone,
alone,

I AM ALIVE.
