Notes About The Poem

Facts about Popcorn:

Popcorn is high in several important nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals and polyphenol antioxidants. Not only that, but it is also incredibly tasty and one of the world’s best sources of fiber. At the end of the day, popcorn is very healthy and consuming it in moderation may even help with weight loss. Also (this was discussed in another article), it won't harm you if you are light on the salt and don't use saturated fats on it)

One of My Biggest Addictions

I’ve always been a foodie.
So many foods do I love,
but there’s got to be just one
I never get enough of.

It’s popular as a snack.
It can be salty or sweet.
Do you think you know by now?
Big hint: It’s a movie treat.

Popcorn, beloved popcorn -
what a wonder of a food.
To eat it when offered me
I’ll always be in the mood

To think those tiny kernels
turn into puffs big and white
simply by heating them up -
it’s a popping great delight.

This low-cost treat of my childhood
we’d eat while watching TV
turned me into an addict
as loony as I can be.

If popcorn I plan to have,
little I’ll eat through the day.
My calories I save for it.
I make it often this way:

In olive oil I cook it.
Then I add to it the salt.
My blood pressure stays good,
so salt makes a big assault!

It is pink Himalyana,
garlic, or lemon or sea.
Butter I try to avoid
though it tastes so good to me.

Sometimes I hot air pop it.
Then butter I can add on.
A giant bowl of it I eat
until it’s totally gone.

Munching on popcorn slowly
can take me two hours long.
No liquor do I need nor
use of a cannabis bong!

I’m no addict to something
that’s damaging to the brain.
If popcorn were denied me though,
I might go a bit insane!

Cheesy popcorn – not healthful -
I’ll have once in a blue moon.
Caramel or Italian style
with parmeson make me swoon.

At least once or twice a week
at my stove I’ll be popping
Native Americans’ gold.
My quirk I’ll not be dropping.

I think I relate it to family memories. Also because of my rare mouth condition, I do better with textures crunchy in my mouth. I prefer salty to sweet but I also love popcorn balls and have good recipes that I use at Halloween time for my students.

Andrea after reading this I got the urge to indulge myself. It is the good kind of addiction in moderation I guess. Weight gain is always a challenge when you love Popcorn. Enjoyed your Addiction and enjoyed the thought of maybe my new addiction lol. Lots of best wishes in the contest. Hugs...

Popcorn doesn't make me gain weight. It's if I happen to put too much butter or something. Otherwise, my weight stays the same. Try it!

Delightful as a bowl of fragrant popcorn, Andrea! Although I'm not addicted to popcorn, I love your poem and I do love popcorn especially on a cold, winter night in front of a cozy fire! Best wishes for the contest! Warm blessings of autumn joy to you!

thanks, Sam. If I wrote about all the foods I craved, it would turn into a novel!

The only popcorn I've eaten is the one sold in the cinema, very sweet and tasty, but so unhealthy, and sadly I'm not a very good cook, so have never attempted to cook my own. Enjoyed reading your poem as much as you enjoyed eating your popcorn. Xx

wow, that is the worst one to eat. Popping oranic popcorn yourself takes only 5 minutes and is healthy!

Makes me drool. Glad you are getting away from movie theater stuff, it is highly loaded with fat and cholesterol. I will try your recipe at home. I am sure I will like it.

yes, I rarely buy movie popcorn any more. One of the best ways to eat it is with parmesan cheese, garlic salt and Italian seasonings and enough butter for taste. that's one of my favorites that isn't too unhealthful.
