one more day please

A tribute to country singer Joe Diffie who died from Covid several years ago. He sang an amusing song that I decided to post after speaking to several people who never heard it. It has a very strange beginning compared to what follows.

A corpse isn't done when it's still
We could provide it a thrill
With will there's a way
To play one more day
Provided someone pays the bill

Sara, funny how the cost does end up on the survivors. I thought the song attempted to express the fear of death many have and deal with it with some humor. All the more reason to live life in tune with nature and to take care of our loved ones while we're alive.

Tonye, I am with you. When I die, I hope there will be a big celebration and only brief tears. I am trying to clear up any loose ends where possible so the fun can take place. I don't know when my end will come as I am 73, but I've been making amends lately just in case.

Tom, yes it was a while back. I like some country depending on the tune and artist. It's interesting to see how some artists have a way with emotion and phrasing. It's a constant across all forms of music.

Sorry I didn't hear the video. Not good at going back and forth between links while commenting with my cell phone. I enjoyed what you said to Ink. I took find it torturous to read really long poems although I have written my fair share of them. Give me a book of haiku or limericks any day over lots of long poems!

Andrea, we could definitely do more writing if the poems we wished to read were shorter and more direct. However, what are the chances of that? If you have the opportunity to watch the video, it is quite unusual. Up to you, of course. I'm thinking of another irreverent one I would like to celebrate!

Just one more day, one more tune to keep up going, one could wish for sometimes! Your way with rhymes always leave me in awe, so impressive and creatively crafted on a subject that is moving and meaningful! And you do all that using the form limerick. Death doesnt stop one, corpse isnt still and probably still plays on! now this form is definitely your signature style! And i wonder what made you love doing limericks? I love the pic used too. Sending always light. Loved this. A beautiful tribute

Thanks IE. I can explain this way...I like summarization and stating things succinctly. I actually find reading long stories and even some of the long poems here a bit torturous. However, I feel I owe it to the people who comment on mine for sure. I also try to use a cute line 5 to make a bit of a joke. I really like jokes and being able to laugh at times. You're really very kind and I appreciate every comment you make. I find what you write fun to read. I thought of something else...I like puzzles and taking an idea and seeing how short I can make it with a lot packed in as an enjoyable challenge. So, somehow, this form fits my mindset.

SP, your comments are always very insightful and appreciated. I have an attraction to the irreverent quality of this song. There's another one I also admire and I plan to post that song and a limerick for that one....it's by a different artist. It would be really nice if we knew our termination date so we could clean things up...the fact that we don't know means we just have to be up to date with everything to the extent possible. I used to like delay avoidance and think it was OK, but no more as I age!

SO, wouldn't be nice if we could have a little time after death to do whatever we regret not doing? I suppose I should think about what I might regret if I died right now this second and take care of it. One thing I should do....tell you what a great poet you are! Your words are absolutely a pleasure to ponder. I think we just all need to spread as much kindness as possible whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I enjoyed this limerick. I guess bills don't end when one dies. You can't take it with you, but someone may put a lien on it.

Hilda, yes...it costs a lot to die. The dramatic funeral expenses present an issue for family members...especially if the person had no savings or interested relatives. That's a good point!
