One Look

As I travel thru life I look at people’s faces And see they are already dead No need to talk to them It’s obvious Without even being said Unhappy, sad, and lost Beyond hope And not worth the cost They run thru their days Wondering why Not a flicker of hope And to tired to cry They just exist From day to day Wondering how, why, And what they missed To smile briefly Would be a lot And mean so little Because they forgot What it is to be alive and free Instead of wishing To never be Eric (and sometimes not)

Thank you Monique, I really appreciate that you liked this one it means alot to me. Most people seem to like that exact phrase you chose as well. It is just the way I saw it in their faces. Sadly, it was loud and clear.

Wow. That last phrase caught me attention too. A powerful ending to a real poem. Nicely done.

Good Morning Yoni, always good to hear your input. For myself alive and free is as simple as making love to beautiful woman or holding a baby in my arms or walking thru the woods on a mid summers day. Everyone has their own version of paradise. Most I see don't know when to unplug and just sit in silence and enjoy the sound of nothing. Freedom is an illusion but the mind can never be enslaved.

'What it is to be alive and free Instead of wishing To never be' I love that phrasing. Now give me a definition of alive and free and I'll be all set. Also there's a poem on soup called "House of Mirrors" by Mohammad Yamin that feels relevant to me with what I hear in your words.
