One Donut To Sit Upon

One donut, to sit upon,
       surround the abdomen,
             to sweeten the A1c; see
                   you later in antipathy

                       but the entire moment
                           was delicious, short-lived,
                               with finger and lips, licked,
                                      and a krispy kreme coffee

at just the late hour, a peak
like pike’s to keep the heart
                                       jumping jacks; eyes wide
                                       open underneath shut lids

                                       donuts and caffeine spinning,
lids open and closing - the learned
steer far from this good ship lollipop.
temple is throbbing under its spell.

                             there’s a donut to pay, a pain
in the knowing - soon it’ll be showing
its plan: the hasty krispy kreme or
                     the dunkin-kind - a sweet lambaste

                    don’t wear its ring
                 or fall for its filling
       you’ll have to divorce
this goody…you can have half

The sweet dream of a Krispy Kreme....and, oh how I know it...the Duncan Donut!! I love them but they hate me. My sister says that they're to die for...especially the Krispy Kreme donuts. Sadly, the gluten-induced stomachache (for me anyway) makes me think, not! I'm sorry, you are not feeling well Kim. I hope you're better soon. I really admire how you wrote this, the form is fun, and the warning is taken!

Great creative poem Kim. I do not eat donuts often, but do like the Lemon Filled or Boston Cream :) I did used to drink way too much caramel mocha Iced Coffee. Even reading about the sugar in your poem got my mind going lol :)

Hi Kim, This is the best doughnut poem I've ever heard. Unfortunately I now want to run to Dunkins and indulge in one..Enjoyed Nancy

Best to have half. Or you'll soon be on diet :) Hugs.

I think my shape is showing right now, Kim. Too many i've eaten i'm afraid. Interesting poem. Love it, and the donuts.

If I were a robot, I would eat a million trillion de-de donuts: All day long, I'd diddy-diddy-die, If I were a donut-eating, robot guy! ~ Fiddler on the Roof Revised. lol... I sure enjoyed that half donut, Kim. Just don't let my calorie-counter know, ok?! :) gw

We can fool ourselves all we want…but we the donut know or the shadow knows…something like that…lol. I love Fiddler on the Roof!
