Notes About The Poem

One Candle Wish

One candle wish; infant turns to walking. The crawl of time; no thoughts of future wish. The glow of light - reddened in face, talking. Peach fuzz of blonde, a little flirt; a dish. One candle wish, so bright, she smiles-a-star. The fire of heart - she’s sixteen-years-pretty. The camera captures her near and far. So fresh of face; the charm of wish; witty. One candle wish, fading, but she holds fast. Wrinkles ‘round eyes, love’s time has passed; alone. Mindful, with no complaint - she’s had a blast. Many wishes are blown - a true milestone. The brightest light, one candle wish, shines on. A heady ride, born in eternal dawn.

I love how the repitition of one candle wish gives this poem direction. It comes across very powerfully. Very nicely done!

I appreciate you, Kathleen! Might we all use our wishes well, letting Gods direct our paths. Might all those candles lead our way. Hugs!

We are born, we grow older and hopefully wiser in time, each era in our lives a candle wish, the last one is born in eternal dawn and depending on how each candle wish era was lived, will shine on. Kim you write with wisdom. Hugs and love Jennifer.

And it's back to one candle in the final years. I really like the theme here.

Thank you truly! We often do go back to one candle instead of a zillion. Perhaps Benjamin Button had it right ;)

Kim, there's only one problem I wouldn't even know how to begin to write a Sonnet

Just begin, darling! Learn iambic pentameter. Read Shakespeare sonnets. Think of subject matter…life, love, death…You can do it! Hugs.

What a charming sonnet, Kim all about the infancy, teenage years and her final golden years of her life. I found it immensely enjoyable and a pleasure to be able to appreciate such fine poetry. I myself have never written a Sonnet.
