One By One

Piper pipe a dirge for me
And for ev'ry soul set free;
Brothers all who heard the call,
One by one each one would fall.

Fall no more good soldiers wed
To this hallowed ground soaked red.
Hear poor mothers wail and weep
For their baby boys who sleep.

Sleep in peace my gentle ones,
Face no more the crash of guns;
Angel wings on hillock knolls
Wrap around your silent souls.

Souls once vibrant. Souls once brave.
Souls arising from the grave;
Brothers all who heard the call,
One by one each one would fall.
