Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time, I could love without fear
I used to love with an open heart, unafraid
Once upon a time, I could trust with my heart
My emotions were shared with no limitations
Once upon a time, I could let someone in
Assured and confident he would take care of me
Once upon a time, my love knew no boundaries
I would go to the ends of the earth for him
Once upon a time, I loved with no fear
And then my love was tainted with his hate.
Bruised externally and battered internally
When once upon a time, I used to be whole
Spit upon, beat down, and gradually torn apart
When once upon a time, I used to be loved
Lied on, cheated on, never once was loyal
When once upon a time, my loyalty was a gift
Tears cried, heart in pain, hair turning gray
When once upon a time, I’d never knew hurt
Butterflies no more, thoughts of him cause anger
Because once upon a time, I could love without fear.
