Once upon a threshold

* more is revealed standing upon the threshold ~ than trying to cross it* by poet

There are no answers except the obvious one
plain language, and earth goes round the sun
There are no problems, only that they occur:
random chance, denial, then existential blur

Search the abstract,
conspire in a dream
scoop one’s mind out,
(open up) and scream

There are some leftovers, evidence of a past
showing one basic truth, life’s not meant to last
What a mindless fate, and price to pay;
still, nature isn’t cruel, has no conscience per se

Beyond the cusp lies
a juggernaut of bricks;
Whatever put it there
stuck fast in the mix

And all the time wasted contemplating what if,
trying to see beyond oblivion’s cliff,
an afterlife is promised, or so some say;
They drip feed gore, while turning good blood away?

Fly up to heaven,
where in the hell?
It’s all purgatory,
down here as well

Gods have been made through mass production;
an AI one’s coding, under self-construction,
conceived by data, not natural evolution;
these cells in our hand, a personal contribution?

It’s nobody’s fault,
there is no blame;
we may have choice,
although none to claim

So disappointing, understandably so,
to find logic itself sets limits it can go
Yet here I stand on the threshold of knowing,
aware at last, there’s nowhere left for going

Content in myself
only when I am,
It’s all very real,
but also a sham.

David, I enjoyed reading this work. When I think about how large the universe is and how minuscule the piece is where we sit, I find it haughty that some assume that there's a god with human-like characteristics. The cynic in me sees the leaders of several religious movements quietly riding round in private jets. That definitely brings them closer to their creator. LOL!!! I hope you don't find what I say offensive. We live in a pretty rough world and hopefully our desire to succeed as a civilization will lead to peace and cooperation, but from what I am seeing here, it seems we have a lot of work to do. Smiles and cheers headed your way in this print form.

Hello, David. This is a powerful and intense piece of existential questioning. A clear-eyed look at the absence of answers, and I appreciate that honesty. Ahhh, the uniquelyuman paradox of finding peace in the very act of acknowledging life's deep contradictions. It's very thought-provoking. Autumn Blessings, David, Daniel

Heya Daniel, thank you for showing deep pragmatism on the existential paradox which is at the heart of most of my poems, I know many paths diverge where faith is concerned, but that’s life! I believe it’s healthy to question everything even if faced with stubborn contradictions, I’m content with what may appear abstract duality, I’m delighted you found this one thought provoking, cheers David

20030 Arthur Vaso Date: 11/2/2025 12:04:00 AM alot of fancy words for a Zionist who cheats. Reply — David Kavanagh Date: 11/2/2025 1:40:00 AM It might be better to expand on how you came to that conclusion, ??? You can always come back and discuss here openly, if not consider yourself no more than another trolling coward! His comment was later removed, but not by me??? He also has me blocked, unlike the open forum I offer him and everyone here. Perhaps the poem below I wrote a few years ago, he finds offensive! https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/morality_police_1493935

No misunderstanding here Anaya!, this guy only cherry picks what he wants to feed the reader, my poem has nothing to do with zionism or cheating, he’s blinded by radicalisation, just like the morality police in Iran, it was a terrible crime they committed murdering Mahsa, and the other protesters, if some women want to wear the hijab it should be their own choice, once it’s not a security risk, thanks so much for your level headed input, cheers David

Woman, Life, Freedom" movement, which challenged the government's authority and its strict dress codes for women. Your poem made me cry, sad, angry & terrified for the young women & I too wrote strongly about the hijab only to have a former poetess we know ball me out saying her mom wears a hijab. Did she not get my protest? It's not about fashion, perhaps she was offended like your friend. Misunderstandings, it happens. Rock the Casbah

These Patriarchal systems only revere themselves, women like Mahsa are totally under the cosh. and may be arbitrarily removed from the street never to be seen alive again!

Heya Paula, thanks so much for commenting on this difficult threshold issue where all logic breaks down, I’m compelled to write about such things it’s in my character (as you know) to be unflinching when I write, that juggernaut of bricks is stubborn and cannot be moved by logical argument, even though I would love to tear it down, no relevant contest in mind for this one, lol!
