Once Upon a Rainbow

The new tomatoes were
Little bumps
On the
Vine
Showing off to the
Universe
Before sundown
On the fourth of
July
Waiting for the
Celebration
To begin

Duckweed choked
The pond
Set back in the
Woods

Baby
Painted Turtles
Full of hope
Sunning on an exposed
Log
Heads snorkeled
Towards the
Diaphanous
Crescent moon

Vinelike tree limbs
Trellised the
Surface
Scum
Stretching
Glassine algae
Like a smoky
Haze
Clinging
To the
Underworld

Gripping
My
Stare

   Never

   Letting

   Go

oh, and I see this was a winner. Which contest? I was thinking it was written for the turtle contest!!! The one not even judged yet. Because of the way you had the turtle in the poem. Congrats for your win. Was it in the free verse contest of Charlotte?

gosh, James. This is pretty good free verse. Have you always used this style with few words on each line? I don't recall lit was your trademark before! some of the images in this one were incredible! Very good poem, my friend.
