On Winning

        It begins with a belief.
        Despite all odds, that it's a fait accompli.
        The nabobs of negativity
        Hang like ominous bats from a ceiling.
        They screech nothing but loss.
        Their lives lived as a game of ring-toss!
        It's quite comical for winners,
        To watch competitors become their own social dinners.
        Eating crow, is made for haters.
        Winners sump on champagne, steak and sour creamed 'taters!

Personally, I think everyone is a poet and we all have a poem in our hearts, but people express them differently, but there are some who never express them at all.. I do run contests, but I've not noticed competitiveness, but then again I don't pay attention to such things, just concentrate on being positive and supportive... This is an amateur site with amateur poets.. I'm sorry you feel that way. I think many people enter contests, because they are inspired by the theme, but of course some will want to finish top, because it's a reflection to how the judge views their poem. Since the Romans and Greeks?..competition is a game. This site is very competitive. You run contests right? People don't enter them to live but to be top dog. Look at the 100 charts. Who's on top? ))) people grouse over POTD Winners. They fight to win those? All kinds of competion here. In reality, who cares? They are games. But IMHO have nothing to do with having the soul of a poet. Following a form, putting in esoteric words is not poetry. I know when I write a poem and when it is gibberish. I don't know why we think words on a Paper make us poets. Any kid can do that. I am harshest on my own works.not others. Pangie xxx
