On Viewing An Old Photograph
On Viewing an Old Photograph
Captured moment of some fleeting day
Though thy subject long ago has passed away.
I see him grin as though he had no care.
Looking young again and oh so fair.
Captured moment, when a little smile
Showed a warm heart that stopped to sit a while
Then ran hurrying ever on its way;
All silly hopes in that brief yesterday.
Could he guess, while sitting in that room,
How soon his corpse would grace a noble tomb?
Dust to dust, the body to the sod.
Dust to dust the rest is left to God.
A captured moment of some fleeting day.
How rapidly our time slips away;
Yet in the picture I see him sitting there,
Looking young again and oh so fair!
