On Tranquil Lake

I drift alone on a most tranquil lake,
Currents take me towards my objective.
I dare not look behind me for I dread
Past failures, yet sorrow is effective.

'Twould be folly to recall only my faults,
Surely some good efforts must be there too,
Life is but a mixture of our choices,
Pure joy and true sorrow form my long queue.

But now it's time to look further ahead
As my boat continues with its slow drift
Towards the not so distant misty shore,
Knowing I have no urge to drive it swift.

For on that shore beneath the threadbare mist
I could discern a large cemetery
'Twill be my last place after a hazard life,
Is that an angel, an emissary?

All of us us will have to drift over the tranquil lake of life that can turn windy and stormy sometimes. But finally we have to be resting for ever under six feet of land in a cemetery. Indeed this is a reminder of the inevitable end of man. Quite a moving poem.

A very moving piece, Victor. My favorite lines, "Life is but a mixture of our choices, Pure joy and true sorrow form my long queue". Peace, Angie

This moving piece reaches down deep into my being, Victor. Wistful, soulful self-reflection, which becomes clearer as aging eyes fade and the spirit moves closer to the distant misty shore. There is such a beautiful depth to this poem. Warmest wishes, dear poet.. ~Susan

My friend Victor, you have a long time until you go on such a voyage, carry on penning these wonderful poems and drift into the sun set as when you were Bernard with your true and exciting love, sweet as jam. You can still look back 'Life is but a mixture of choices'. However an awesome poem Victor. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Reflecting on the past is helpful for the future. Glance for only a moment though. The past is for our learning, it is not a place to stay. Such a thought provoking write my dear friend. Hugs, Brandy

- Life is a mixture of our choices, Victor :) - As long as our conscience is pure we can safely look back ... it's our story ... memories ... the angels can wait ... they have a good time because they are not mortal - hugs // Anne-Lise :)
