On the Shore
ON THE SHORE
Standing on the shore as if rooted in rock
I face the stinging salt sea spray
tasting like tears on my cheek
burnishing my grief to granite
which endures beyond the tides
and does not obey the moon
The wind wails in a wild gypsy voice
My heart answers with your name
