On the High Peak

Oh how beautiful the sun that was rising, The sun I had spent my life despising. It marked a time of torture, a time of grief, The dead, knotted trees above me had not one leaf. I wished for my life to end, for my sorrow was not known, Tears would not come, the pain went down to the bone. Comfort was all I wanted, my heart was so sore, My one true love was no more. My eyes darkened and my soul gave a mighty shriek, For I had pushed the knife inside me on that high peak. I opened my eyes, life was still mine, My mistake was realized, in God I do trust for he lived in the beginning of time.
