On the Floor

On The Floor

My words were stomped out
like the butt of a cigarette.

Words that I chose carefully
to purge my life of bitterness.

Words that disrespected me,
posted on a billboard,
free for the whole world to see.

I've been flogged and
treated like an outcast
by strangers and humiliated
in front
of the eyes of millions.

Barbs of wire and bags of riches,
destroyed my carefully chosen words.
Shame has been pelted at my back,
in a place that should be
safe to express without attack.

My freedom of speech,
has been stripped of me.
Are these the days of
the Puritans?

Now I lay on the floor,
all tattered and torn.
Right in the very place,
where my bitter
words were born.

Powerful piece. The emotion comes through your words. The creative imagery works well. Thank you for sharing your poem with us and for your kind words on mine. Karen

Marie Harisson, a very vivid picture on the thougth that you are not being heard out. The image of the cigarette is plenty to place a sad reaction on your emotions. Hope it is just a poem, well done on the write. Also the bitter ways you point out of being hanged out to dry when it comes to your words. Loved the poem,..pd.
