On the Death of a Fly
On the Death of a Fly
By Elton Camp
Upon learning about a murder most foul
PETA immediately put up quite a howl
“Whoever this innocent fly chose to slay
Will go to prison if we can get our way!”
The crime they proceeded to investigate
To find the perpetrator of a crime so great
To keep passersby from coming too near
Put a police line so no clue would disappear
At once, the house owner they did mention
With suspicion that murder was his intention
“This poor fly was another sentient being.
Such cruelty we can’t believe we’re seeing.”
They found a fly swatter with greatest speed
And proclaimed, “This is the proof we need.”
At the fly’s funeral, they began to weep and wail
Comforted only by the fact the killer went to jail
