On the Beach

waves lull me to sleep my eyes drifting and fluttering but wait didn’t I want to see the twilight? They open in uninterested slits the melody of the ocean lullabying me into total relaxation a joyful reunion with my loved ones who have gone ahead I wake to the enthusiastic laugh of a toddler. One of those shrill excited scream shriek laughs. An unexpected smile parades across my lips. I am forgetting to grieve now. It is impossible to be sad here. I smoosh my fingers into the sand, feeling loved.

I hope you feel so loved. Is the grief about your mother, sweet friend?

An awful way to go. May she rest in peace. Hugs to you, my friend...

It's the only grief I ever really had. My father had Alzheimers and wanted to go, but my mother had a painful lingering cancer in the bones death a year ago tomorrow.
