On Poetry

Poetry is a challenging art;
it requires skill and meter
and a poet that’s awful smart,
or he will tire and teeter.

Poetry requires wit and heart;
one must be a practiced poet
who writes with grace and art
to forge beauty and not blow it.

Poetry is a divine art
which comes from the Nine Muses
who both inspire and impart
afflatus that the poet ne'er refuses.

Poetry can be an arduous art,
a source of perspiration
that demands the better part
and labors for inspiration.

Poetry is a demanding art
that's not for the casual dilettante
nor for the weak and faint of heart,
the cavalier or nonchalant!

Poetry is a noble art;
more lovely than science or math,
it requires the mind of Descartes
and the love for Parnassus’s path.

Poetry, at last, comes from the heart
and sometimes makes no sense;
but it keeps us from being apart,
and that makes all the difference.
