On My Own
Where were you when I was down
and needed you to lend me a hand?
Where were you when I was weak
and needed to lean onto you?
Where were you when I was lonely
and needed you to be by my side?
Where were you when I was
beset with doubts and fears
and needed your assurance?
Now I have come to depend on myself
and need you no more,
Now I feel secured down here
and do not need to be picked up,
Darkness had held me in its comforting arms
for many silent nights
Now I do not need the blinding rays of light
Nor do I need the guiding trail
to show me the way,
In the wild ways of wilderness
I have now come to find my sanctuary.
In the midst of the gathering fog
I stand alone,
I am the one who set sail
in the foreboding storm,
Now I see clearly in the darkness
and savor the lilt of the stormy nights,
I can sail calmly into the wild seas
and fault no one
if I hit the rocky shores,
For I am the master of my fate
and
I will unflinchingly yield
to the death’s overtures…
Then so be it!
