On Halloween Night
Look and listen
for the raps on the window
the creaks in the floor
the swinging of the doors
the broomstick floating 'round
the distant laughing sound
mist hovering in the air
the footsteps on the stairs
shadows in the hall
the spookiness of it all
the eerie and the strange
someone walking down the lane
the cat upon the sill
darkened rooms that give you chills
the flicker of the candle
the slow turn of the handle
the pumpkin's haunted glow
tree branches hanging low
the tingle in your spine
the swirl of space and time
the ringing of the bell
the casting of the spell
the impending sense of fright
on this enchanted night.
