On Any Given Street

no greetings from the who pass by
not even a tip or a quick hi
silently we step out to greet the world
and return home feeling hurled

where are those days we got a nod
so far behind now it’s so odd
only if there were some awareness
that we walk by it would be so careless

all pass by, eyes straight ahead
don’t they see us, or are we dead
Hi there, nice to see you
is not heard today out of the blue
