On a Cold Night When the Starlight Whispered

On a cold night when the starlight
whispered into the ears of the alluring
hanging oranges looking for the
pulsating pores of purple passion
in the light and dark of moonlight

In that biting cold all of a sudden
the moment you grabbed my flowers
An explosion, a saffron explosion
took place at the top of the tree
busy with the silvery whispers
The boats started swaying in lakes
In the light and dark of moonlight

Sometimes you have to take tea
Sometimes you have to offer it
My cup tonight is brimming
I called you to share a little
To float with the blue waves of
shared ripened grapes
of swollen sorrows and velvet drops
of joy, come, the moon will not wait

My bare feet in the cold
Did look for stockings
It came almost on the platter
In the forest tent
I stretched out my hands
Hungry clouds clasped them

The heels of the hands on the
small Indian drums called tabla
The fingers talking with the strokes
Flutes in disquiet crescendo
Pieces of the midnight into veins
The audience comprising stars
from the sky and waves from the seas
The boats now floated on hills

When I woke up in the morning
A Babylonian sparrow greeted
me, and asked
How was your midnight song
The flower was still asleep
