Old Wooden Bucket
OLD WOODEN BUCKET
An ended friendship is like an old wooden bucket
that no longer can collect the water
without letting some of it drain out
the hole in its bottom
onto the cobblestone floor.
It hurts to stop seeing a friend,
but relationships and wooden buckets
don't last forever.
No friendship can be completely replaced,
but to stay with those
who are destructive of self-development
destroys the mind and the heart's purpose.
The ups and downs of life
can rot out an old wooden bucket, or an old friendship,
to the extent that it cannot survive.
Ended relationships are remembered
as the old wooden bucket is remembered,
but there is a time to take them up
and a time to let them go.
