Oh September
There are times in this world
When it seems fit to dance
To run through the alleys
To skip and to prance
These times of our life
Are the times we remember
And then there’s the pain
Like last year’s September
The sun had already ceased
To warm the autumn air
The leaves had already begun
To fall down everywhere
Then I was naïve and childlike
I had no desire, I had no dream
And I couldn’t see the summer
Nor a single light’s beam
I was dark and unattainable
But nobody could really see
I felt lonely and alone
As if nobody cared for me
I pretended all was alright
As everyone does at times
Nobody saw through me
Save my paper, pen, and rhymes
I was lost in the shadow
I was wandering in the rain
Slipping, I hit my head
But I couldn’t feel the pain
Lying there I remembered
I remembered the memories
The smile-casting moments
Of parks and climbing trees
Oh – just to return to them
I knew I could get along
But even then I knew the truth
Those days were forever gone
There are times in this world
When you can’t even move
You’re frozen In place
With no sense of groove
These times of our life
Are the times we remember
And I haven’t been truthful
It was this September
