Oh, Gentle Dog
Oh! Gentle dog
I want to know you
Who has left you on the street?
to starve, your bones jutting through skin
Look at you
Your beautiful eyes
Does my soft voice say devotion to you?
Did you once know comfort before you were thrown away?
Please, come to me, trust
my hand. Hear my heart breaking
Let me be your new beginning. Your safety
Your land of compassion. My promise of love found
Take a chance on this night
And I will whisper in your ears, softly
Of food and care. Happy days of playful delight
Amid your uncertainty, lean against my breast of new beginnings
