Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be

Oh dear, what can the matter be? Why are you acting mad at me? Because I got home late last night? I went with friends to get a bite, Had a few drinks, danced in a bar, And then things went a little far. You liar! I know fully well You didn’t dance with any belle, You didn’t go out for a drink – That’s just what you want me to think. You scoundrel! You deserve this - Slap! You stayed late, working, in your lab! 1/31/2019 For contest: Oh dear, what can the matter be Sponsored by Barry Stebbings

An interesting twist on the usual: explanation, justification, complication, accusation, dramatisation. Interesting one, Agnes.

Thanks, Andrea. Yes, the contest got judged, and my poem did not place. Oh well - I still had fun writing it. I have been in a bad funk this winter and not been able to focus much on poetry, but writing something humorous took the pressure off and was relaxing.

Ouch, wasn't he doing it just for thee, and maybe the rest of your family. I don't know, why did he have to lie? Sounds like he's hiding a surprise. Stay happy, ney worry what the matter might be. Enjoyed yours hope you enjoyed my poetic comment. Good luck in the contest... Mick

Thanks, Jan. I am glad I am not married to a workaholic; my husband tries to limit late night work and only rarely does it when absolutely necessary.

I had no idea at first, but then, with my husband working late, I remembered that old joke.
