Oh Child Do You Know

A Father’s Love Oh child can you feel the sweet touch of a father’s hug that caresses worry away and fills the heart with love a foundation for your life with actions of great intent and abounding selfless devotion with no regret Oh child do you realise the sacrifices to be made hand in hand as he gently guides your every move pride in watching your independence blossom but fearing life will call you from his protective arms Oh child can you see how his heart aches as he picks you up giving you courage to face adversity wiping away the tears the hurt in his eyes when trust is broken by wilfulness but forgiveness in abundance and unfaltering love Oh child savour the joy as he looks upon your face as your eyes meet there is reflection of his younger self words unspoken but a smile shared with the same tilt of the head emulation of him in so many ways to leave no doubt Father and child sharing such special moments engrossed in happy conversation that overshadows the challenges to come that will test their bond Comfort of the soul when cocooned in his caress and for that special moment, life is kept at a distance.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

This poem was written after I visited my father's grave. I never knew my father as he died before I turned 2 years old. Always a void in my heart on Father's Day.
