The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

off with her head

off with her head said the king
relishing that he got by with it too
a trial edict that made him laugh and sing
and made the senator’s family sad and blue

off with his arms, off with her legs
king’s edicts were swiftly and brutally carried out
checks and balances no longer had legs
six more dead bodies were carried out

the killings got worse; no one said a word
the king’s bullyish ways are sanely absurd
half the village was murdered in a very small time
the rest were so terrified, they no longer said “no king of mine”.

they kept their mouths shut, afraid they would be next.
when the king came to visit, they dropped to a genuflect.
eventually, they were dragged out and killed anyway.
The king was a mean-spirited bully, each and every day.
