Off With Her Head

The wife of Louis, lavish Marie Antoinette Extravagantly led the country into debt. Designed to marry Austria with France, She led the hapless king a merry dance. Poor harvests afflicted the farms, The peasants were all up in arms. They stormed the Bastille With militant zeal, Which triggered off royal alarms. Although her youthful beauty had been widely prized, She ended life decapitated and despised. And that is why you often hear it said, That avarice can make you lose your head. 16.09.19 'Clerimerick Couplets (Hybrid Form) Poetry Contest' sponsored by Mark Toney

Wow. Congrats on a win with a historical figure, Wendy. I think you were the only one to select a personage from the history books. Best wishes, Gershon
