Of Ice and Men
Two hearts once warm and glowing bright
Gleamed on and on with golden light,
They laughed, they pranced, they owned their days,
Lost in love's sweetish sunlit haze.
But seasons change, the leaves turn brown,
Shadows begin to lengthen down,
A chill creeps in the subtle breeze,
That rustles around love-struck trees.
A careless word, a bitter fight,
Extinguishes the guiding light.
Small cracks appear, like lines of frost,
On every dreams once cherished most.
The sun, once strong, begins to wane,
Leaving only ice on the brain,
The laughter fades, the joy departs,
Replaced by frozen, aching hearts.
Their hands that held so tight and true,
Now tremble, hesitant with dew,
They reach, then pull away in fear,
As icy silence fills the air.
They build up walls of ice so high,
Between them, reaching up the sky,
Each seamless sheet of snow is doubt,
Trapped in the winter, no way out.
Their whispers now are icy cold,
Their stories left are never told,
They stand apart, two figures bleak,
On reverse sides, inept to speak.
Their warmth has parted, the fire dead,
An icy wasteland lies ahead,
Their future stretches, vast and grey,
With no words left for them to say.
The die`s now cast, their love undone,
Beneath the icy horizon,
Their heart, once warm, now hard as stone,
A love that's frozen, all alone.
They look back now, with icy gaze,
On those long-lost lingering days.
And widely wonder when and why
Love turned to ice beneath the sky.
Such predicaments are not few,
But rise day by day, ever new,
With walls of ice wrecking households,
A sad plight, indeed, to behold.
